How to visually enlarge a small bathroom

The bathroom areas in most of the living spaces are relatively small. If there is a possibility to expand the room physically, a potential re-construction would inevitably spend quite some time and money. With a few creative approaches, however, a small bathroom can be enlarged visually without having to require a substantial costs and efforts. Here are some practical ideas on how to optically enlarge the small bathroom.

Do not underestimate the impact of color in the interior

When decorated in dark colors small bathrooms seem narrower and smaller than they are in reality.  However, if you choose tiles in bright colors, the room will visually seem more spacious. If the cabinets in the bathroom are brown, you can visually expand the space by choosing wall and floor tiles in lighter tones, whose design incorporates graphics in brown.

Choose tiles with bigger size

Not only color but also the size of the tiles you choose to lay on the walls and floor tiles for bathroom affects visually the space. The smaller the tiles, the denser the network of joints formed on the bathroom walls and floor is, which give the impression of a narrower room. With this respect, to optically make the bathroom looks bigger and broader, you might as well choose floor and wall tiles with bigger size. Even better, for maximum effect, get calibrated tiles, which when laid close to each other, do not form gaps as they allow for thinner joint lines.

Save space with creative sinks

In order to have more free space in a small bathroom, it is not recommendable  to choose large volume cabinets and sinks. Instead bet on a console sink, since most of these types of washbasins  are directly mounted on the wall and occupy small fraction of the floor space in the bathroom. The later can be accompanied by short in hight bathroom shelves, on which you ca arrange towels and other accessories.

Natural Daylight

Having natural day light coming though into the bathroom is undoubtedly a serious advantage and priority as it helps unleash the full potential of the chosen tile color scheme and highlight elements of the decoration. Natural daylight also makes the room visually more specious. If your bathroom has a window mounted high and ensuring privacy, leave them without curtains or blinds, so you can make the most of light coming through. If the windows in the room are lower, to ensure your privacy, bet on thin curtains, partially permeable and in natural colors.

Spectacular Lighting

If the lighting in your small bathroom is weak and insufficient, consider installing additional lighting. Shady corners in poorly lit small rooms seem to make them look even smaller. It is therefore necessary to provide optimal lighting in the room that will enhance colors and will bring more comfort in the small bathroom.
