Interview with Duigu Ibram – winner of the KAI award from the "Scientific School of Architecture and Design 2025" competition at NBU

For the second year in a row, students from New Bulgarian University took part in the competition organized by the School of Architecture and Design at the educational institution. The theme of the challenge this year was the creation of an architectural and interior design project for the renovation of the Faculty of Economics of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski".

We proudly distinguished the project of Duigu Ibram - "A New Vision for Knowledge", which impressed us with creativity, functionality and a sense of materials. In her concept, she used tiles from the Street and Celtic series (in sizes 60x60 cm and 15.5x60.5 cm), demonstrating a successful and aesthetic combination, contributing to the contemporary and elegant look of the space. 

Below we share an interview with Duigu, in which she tells more about her project and her impressions of KAI products.

What do you know about us?

I was introduced to KAI even before I participated in the school – in our company, which builds residential buildings, we have been using your tiles for over 10 years. Therefore, I know from personal and professional experience that you offer products with high quality, durability and a good price-quality ratio. KAI is among the leading manufacturers of ceramic coatings in Bulgaria and I am impressed by the mistakes and modern technologies you work with. My work on the project at the school helped me look at your products from a design perspective and once again make sure that they are suitable for both residential and public spaces.

What are your impressions of our tiles and what do you like about them?

I am impressed by the variety and high quality. The tiles have a stylish look, well-chosen texture and colors, allowing for easy combination with different materials. In addition, they are durable and suitable for any type of project.

Tell us more about the concept behind your project.

The idea was to create a modern and inspiring educational environment – ​​a space that is both functional, aesthetic and cozy. The natural tones, clean balanced lines and distribution of materials to support the feeling of calm and creativity.

Why did you choose these series that you used in the project?

I chose them to gain your texture and vision – looking for tiles that would create a feeling of stability and purity.

How do you fit in with the other elements of the interior design?

Very well – the tiles became a natural background for the other elements such as furniture, lighting and color accents. They balanced the composition and contributed to the harmony of the interior.

Have you included our tiles in another project?

Yes, for sure. Working with your products was pleasant and the result – completely satisfying. I will continue to use them in future projects, both residential and public.
